Jeff Metson
Jeff Meston is a third generation firefighter and the current Executive Director of the California Fire Chiefs Association (CFCA). He is also a past President of the CFCA. A 45+ year veteran of fire service, Jeff has experience working at the State, County, City and Special District levels. He has also worked for private fire departments and Tribal fire departments.
Jeff holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, is a California Certified Fire Chief #16 and a National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer. He has served as President of the Marin County Fire Chiefs Associations and Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chiefs Associations. Jeff has been a course developer and instructor at both the National Fire Academies residency programs and the California Fire Service Training and Education System, specializing in strategic planning, group dynamics and problem solving.
Jeff recently held the positions of Acting City Manager and Fire Chief for South Lake Tahoe and previously served as the Executive Director for the California State Firefighters Association. Jeff currently serves on the Board of Directors for FIRESCOPE and the University of California San Diego WIFIRE Convergence Advisory Board of Directors. Additionally, he provides executive coaching for new fire chiefs and other government executives.serves as Treasurer of the Climate and Wildfire Institute. Finally, Jeff is a member of the prestigious California Fire Chiefs Association’s Hall of Fame.
